Hey there!
I'm Jen Coxsell, a photographer from West Yorkshire, UK. Photography has been woven into my life for as long as I can remember—a constant way of seeing and connecting with the world around me.
Everything shifted when I received my first SLR at 18. That camera became my companion, teaching me to notice light, composition, and fleeting moments. These days, I shoot with both my camera and my phone—whatever helps me capture what catches my eye.
For me, photography is more than a hobby—it's how I process the world, find beauty in the everyday, and tell stories without words. I'm excited to share this journey with you.
My Story
Photography has been my constant companion for as long as I can remember. It started with borrowed moments—my parents' camera in hand during family trips to the United States and France. Those early snapshots, some of which you'll find here, still hold a special place in my heart.
Everything changed at 18 when I unwrapped my first camera on Christmas morning in 2010. A year later, I took it on my first solo journey to Wilmington, North Carolina, where it became an extension of myself—documenting family visits, unfamiliar streets, and quiet moments. That camera followed me through adventures in 2014 and 2018, each trip deepening my relationship with the craft.
Before I had my own camera, my uncle offered me a week at his photography studio when I was 16 or 17. He gave me complete freedom to experiment with props, lighting, and composition. That week ignited something in me—a conviction that this could be more than a hobby. But at 20, rejection from another studio opportunity hit hard. My confidence crumbled, and I stepped away from photography, uncertain if I’d ever return.
The way back was gradual. Smartphone cameras became my quiet re-entry point—less intimidating, always accessible. I started small: weekend trips, the ordinary beauty of daily life. Slowly, the joy returned.
2022 brought my first solo long-haul flight to Australia to meet my new-born nephew. My phone captured everything—sweeping landscapes, vibrant street scenes, the wonder of being somewhere entirely new. Many of those images appear in this portfolio, though I’ve kept my nephew’s face private. When I returned to Australia in 2023 for work, I explored the Great Ocean Road and Moonlit Sanctuary, immersing myself in wildlife and coastal beauty. You might spot a cheerful yellow whale in some shots—I photographed it to create a visual story for my friend’s autistic son, knowing his curious mind would delight in following the whale’s journey. He loved it.
Now, in 2026, as someone navigating ADHD, I’m channelling renewed focus and passion into photography. My goal is clear: to turn this lifelong love into a professional career. The journey continues, and I’m excited to see where it leads. Explore my portfolio, and if you’d like to follow along, find me on Instagram.
